Do You Use a Fertilizer Spreader?

Whenever you think of fertilizer you should immediately imagine the use of the fertilizer spreader; this will be an invaluable tool as it is extremely helpful in the distribution of fertilizer as well as for dispensing seeds, weed control and other similar things.

There are many a type of fertilizer spreader each one used for a particular purpose.

The Types of Fertilizer Spreader

The broadcast fertilizer spreader is your best choice if you have a large lawn or area to cover. The fertilizer or seeds or whatever material is spread with the help of a disc that literally throws seeds all around. You will need to overlap a little, but it is fast and definitely safe in using. You may not be able totally control the way it disperses the material but you will have area covered in no time.

The Drop fertilizer spreader is used for smaller areas where a lot of control is needed. Here the material is directly dropped as the fertilizer spreader passes and hence there will be no wastage of material.

The hand-held fertilizer spreader operates the same way as the broadcast spreader - the only difference is that one is hand held and the other is a machine.

You will have to choose the fertilizer spreader that suits your needs the best. The following few tips should be useful to you:

* Read the instructions of the spreader very carefully and engage the spreader exactly as they say. Be careful that you understand the instructions well or get someone to explain them to you. It is very important that you use the machine exactly as it is intended to and not for other odd jobs around the garden.
* Always check that you have shut down the machine once you have finished the work
* Clean your spreader well with water and remove all the fertilizer from its body; the fertilizer will make it rust otherwise
* Service the spreader at least once every month if you are using it very often, otherwise once in 2-3 months will do
* Always wear appropriate clothes as it could even be fatal if something loose gets into the spreader when you move along.
* When using your fertilizer spreader, it is good if you draw the lines on which you will move, otherwise you will have to use the spread twice or more to cover one area completely.
