How to use a Commercial Fertilizer Spreader

The issue of applying fertilizer is one of great importance, and before beginning this task, there are a few factors which should be understood. If you are planning on using a commercial fertilizer spreader, you must first divide the total amount of spread needed in half.

Then, set your commercial fertilizer spreader to the lowest possible setting you can. Next, walk North-South across the lawn area with half the amount, then East-West with the other half. By doing this, you can complete the entire lawn with your commercial fertilizer spreader equally and evenly.

How to Use a Commercial Fertilizer Spreader in Other Areas

When working in areas of your garden such as flowerbeds or vegetable gardens, you can apply the fertilizer in several different ways. One, it can be broadcast and thoroughly incorporated into the upper 7 to 8 cm of soil in spring; or it can be side-banded; and placed around each plant, about 5 cm away and 5 cm deep.

This method is the most labor intensive, but at the same time is more efficient, due to the fact that the fertilizer is placed where it can be used properly by the plants.

Different Types of Commercial Fertilizer Spreaders

From self-propelled to tow-behind spreaders, there is a wide selection of commercial fertilizer spreaders to choose from, and they are sure to be the quickest fertilizer solution, especially for a large lawn.

Regardless of which commercial fertilizer spreader you decide to go with, you can feel assured in that it will be a prompt and easy treatment for your lawn.

The rotary types of commercial fertilizer spreaders are can easily spread the fertilizer in about 20-30 foot wide patterns. Also, where many cash crops are grown, airflow fertilizer spreaders are often available and are excellent for the spreading of seed-fertilizer mixtures.

A commercial fertilizer spreader may be more expensive than its counterpart used for domestic purposes, but its uses outweigh the costs as you can get more done in less time.

One should remember to always apply and spread the mixture on calm days or at least those with a gentle breeze and take advantage of crosswinds so that the patterns will overlap better. Also, one should be cautious about mixing big batches and spreading them over large areas, as the mix may separate and you will end up having to remix the last of it with a scoop.
